Since it’s ///Monday, let’s count the number of M badges on my E90 M3. Hint, it’s a lot.

Let’s start with the exterior of the, and where better to start than with the badge on the back, that’s 1.

Kinja'd!!!

There’s one each on the driver’s side and passenger’s side quarter panels, that makes 3.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Naturally, each wheel needs it’s own ///M badge, adding 4 more bringing the total to 7.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Open the driver’s side door and you’re greeted with 2 more, now at 9 ///M badges.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Same with the passenger’s side, 2 more so the count is at 11.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Once you’re actually seated in the front seats, you’ll have an ///M badge to cusion your head, making the total 13. The rear passangers have to do without this luxury as their are no ///M badges embossed in the rear seats.

Kinja'd!!!

sorry for the blurry photo

Kinja'd!!!

Behind the wheel you see two more, one on the tach and one on the steering wheel. Brining the total to 15.

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t worry, there’s one for your hand to change gears with, now with a whopping 16.  !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Last but not least, can’t forget what’s lurking under the hood. Got one on the engine for a grand total of 17.

Kinja'd!!!

Seventeen. Damn, that’s a lot of ///M badges.

I wonder how many M badges the original E30 M3 had. Or the M1, for that matter.

Way to devalue an otherwise very clean, very simple logo.

Damned marketing people.

You have nothing on the new M3/M4. http://blog.caranddriver.com/the-number-of-m-logos-on-the-2015-bmw-m3-is-staggering/

They counted 16 on the exterior of the car alone.

By going all around and below the total was a staggering 67 visible M badges.

I mean there was this on top of my front struts, and I’m sure there are a shitton more if I went through the whole car.

I bet there are a bunch more molded into the undersides of all the plastic parts along with the part numbers and BMW logos.

Eh, it’s only bad when they start putting them on non-M cars. Although, they’ve been doing that since the late 80s. I found a BMW sales pamphlet in the junkyard and they put the M badge on the back of am e30 325i M sport. Plus they had an ///M grill badge for the non-M e30s, BMW part number 72601933569.

Oh, I’m sure there are. I need to do my rear brakes soon, maybe I’ll take some pics.

I remember that perfectly. But at least that was (mostly) the owner’s choice. What I feel against is BMW themselves exaggerating with one particular logo or badge, to the point it almost becomes devoid of any real meaning. Of course BMW is not alone in this.

One could even argue that having so many M-versions is, in itself, a indication of the same trend (or rather, problem). Years ago that M meant a lot more.

You can always argue about brand delusion. That was why Audi used to only make 1 or 2 RS car at a time.

An M4 I got up close and personal with had light-up emblems in the seats.

Is it just me or do the actual M cars have less M badges than the M package that so many BMWs have
